This will be my final blog

What are my thoughts on this course as a whole, well for most part I found that although I am a techno nerd and for me to use some of these tools outside of work - not a chance! I found twittering is not for me - just can't see the point of chatting or twittering to someone on the other side of the world who does not know me.

It seems that I spend too much of my time on the internet as is, to find what I want I have to troll through hundreds of pages - most of the time it is of no relavent to my search. Let alone wasting more of my precious time reading blogs and so forth! Although I do have a facebook account to which I am not so sure is safe, but this keeps me in contact with friends from school, family and others across the country and overseas.

Please note this all my personal opinion!

Geocoaching

Well with the latest technology in your palm, anyone can get from point A to point B! Only great for those who travelling and/or new to town!

Applying this to local public library - I am not so sure that this will work! Also for general use does this not cost a lot? For all those data download to your phone the phone bill will skyrocket out of control unless there are free WIFI hotspots.

Although I am up to speed with all the latest technology, I am not up to keeping up with the Jones! I think that many others have the same point of view..

Week 9 - Podcasting

This is another way of getting information, and entertainment for the millions of user out there in wide world. For me personally I have listened to digital radio online one or twice before, but have never actually subscribed to pod/vod.
In term library context it’s all a bit much for me - I will get information overload. So far through my research with regards to using this form of communication - I have found it consist mostly of book reviews, which did not really appeal to me.
For personal use I will consider it for entertainment, such as downloading digital music cast, if and when I have time to listen to this casting.

week 8 - YouTube

YouTube is a medium that is not for me, although out in the wider community there are plenty of people who will spend hours on end on this website. I guess each to their own devices; I have continued with the theme on the "Crazy things" this is what I entered in the search term.
As you can see this is very appropriate to what is available out there, if you know the terminology to search. Some of these scenes are not for the faint hearted that's for sure – so enjoy!

One last thing, I am going on a ranting tantrum - this is a total waste of time, I am bagging it! Yes, it is not my cup of tea! Although millions out there will disagree with my comment!

Week 7 - facebook, twitter

Facebook
I must be of the old school generation! I enjoy face to face conversation with someone and if old fashion phone, although with my own personal facebook, I keep in contact with friends and family overseas. I am very careful with my personal information on this site as it is very open for one and all. If you have an account you can go on and search for anyone - information on here is not very safe or SECURE!
People who are part of this site do not realise the potential risk they put themselves into and that of their friends and family.

you can find via crazieuser@gmail.com
and my alias: Joanne Oscar
for those who have not guessed who I am, I work at BLJ library intial KN

Twitter @crazieuser (this in my username)

Twitter to me is not relevant in the whole scheme things, each to their own taste and preferences! For me it is a complete waste of time! Who cares what someone else is doing!  This is my personal opinion so please do not take offense as I find this form of communication very impersonal and no connection to person down the other end who are reading the tweets.
If you following people you don’t know online - I classified this as stalking – my own personally opinion; I don’t know how everyone else feels about this, feel free to drop me a line or two and tell me your thoughts on this subject.

week 6 - tagging, delicious and librarything

  • Write a blog post of at least 100 words on your thoughts of tagging and Delicious

  • What are my thoughts - well it's another username and password added to my long collection, I think it up to five or is it number six, I have lost count! there are only two pc that I use work one and my laptop (this one comes with me when I travel, so no need to use delicious or tagging to get the website I want! only use that I can see are for those who is constantly on the move and have no base pc to which they call their own! So far I have spent more time surfing the Internet, than I would normally in week, hours wise adding up to 10 hours of which I could be doing something else!

  • Write a blog post of at least 100 words on your thoughts of Librarything

  • After taking the tour I have come to the conclusion that this is an online bookclub where liked minded individuals get together and discuss the books they love, interaction is through the computer screen. This form of conversation is not for all, it excludes people who have no access to technology, and those who can not afford the Internet connection. It's alright for us to say spread the word, be up to speed on all this technology but for the common people I am sure would have not heard of half these tool that we use! Educate and spread the word about the tools in our library like the book "Who else write like...?" would come in handy to our regular patron! I know I am only thinking of our patron, not all are computer literate.

    Week 5 - Wikis

    What did you find interesting?

What I find interesting is that children doing homework mainly quotes Wikipedia as their main source of information! I know that this site check on verification of known facts, but is it trust worthy fact! This is point a view of someone entering this information and a couple of others will check all done on a voluntary process! Usually I will point out other items on our shelf for them to use for their assignments/projects and also trusted website like Britannica online.

What sort of information could your library put on a wiki - internal for staff only or external for customers to use and edit?
Fr external use a wiki where customer can start there own discussion group about books they have readied - likes and dislikes, their own suggestions on books that others can read.
